Teenagers And Slang Words

Teenagers these days have their own language. They have their own terms in some words which we don’t know yet. We might get confused with the meanings of those words.

So I made a little research and if you want to be a hipster too, check out these 10 slang words, teenagers are using these days:

1. BAE
“Before Anyone Else”.  It is often used as a word for “girlfriend” or “boyfriend”. It is also used to mean things like “babe”, “baby”, “girl”, and is often used as a slang term for “girls” in general.

2. Seenzoned

It is when you send someone a message and it says “seen” but they don’t reply.

YOLO means “you only live once,” something said when you’re about to do something you may regret. YOLO was popularized by rapper Drake with his song “The Motto”. We don’t know until when, we are going to stay in this world, so if you had the chance to do what you want, do it because you only live once. Live your life to the fullest. But always remember limitations do exist.

4.  Frenemy

An enemy disguised as a friend. You know that whole “keep your friends close, but your enemies closer” saying? Yeah, a frenemy is often a person, a teenager hangs out with regularly that they don’t really like.

5. Ratchet

Someone or something that is ugly, gross, annoying, unappealing, broken, etc. Similar to the slang term “ghetto” Another translation is a diva, mostly from urban cities and ghettos, that has reason to believe she is every man’s eye candy. Unfortunately, she’s wrong.

6. Photobomb

When two people are taking a photo and someone either knowingly or unknowingly ruins it by being in the picture. If you are doing this, you are a certified Photo bomber!! The ugly one in the picture is the Photo Bomber!!

A new cliché saying, teenagers use today to describe one another. THOT means That Hoe Over There. It is the latest slang word for calling a woman promiscuous, the same old double standard dressed up in new, catchier clothes.

8. Hipster

It was originally used to describe a young fashion conscious person who would wear the latest fashions – nowadays it describes someone who is trying to be modern and follow trends but just is too old or out of touch with the real fashion.

9.  Swerve

Use it as an exclamatory word to emphasize a statement. It also can be used at the beginning OR end of a sentence. Because teens are notoriously “difficult”,  this word doesn’t exactly have a concrete definition.

10. Swag & Dope
I saved the best for last. The most used words in the whole Facebook and Twitter universe. Boys use them, girls use them, your teacher uses them, and maybe even your headmaster too. If you got swag, you generally dress to attract maximum attention, and you know the latest hit music tracks, movies and games. To break down the word, it means (Secretly We Are Gay). It is also a word that means to represent yourself/ the way you represent yourself. People who do not do drugs call Marijuana Dope. Dope is used by teenagers to describe how good something is. For example “That car over there is dope!!”
